We just had one of the biggest pots of the tournament play out, and it went the way of the recent WSOP bracelet winner Michael Liang. Action started with Luis Yepez raising to 400,000 under the gun.
Big stack Anthony Marquez three bet to 1,050,000, and on the button, short stack Phongthep Thiptinnakon (pictured above) called for virtually his entire stack. Liang was in the big blind, and he tanked for quite some time before moving all in for 4,100,000 total.
It was then Yepez’s turn to hit the tank, and he thought for about two minute before folding [Jd][Jc]. Marquez also quickly ducked out, and Thiptinnakon called his final chips with [As][Qs].
Unfortunately for him, Liang had woken up with the weapons of mass destruction, [Ad][Ac], and the flop of [6h][5h][5c] left Thiptinnakon drawing to running queens.
Of course, poker is never that easy, so the [Qc] did come on the turn to keep Thiptinnakon’s thin hopes alive. But the [3d] completed the board, adjust like that, Liang has gone from short stack to big stack with seven million now.
